Looking great everyone! Hope my piece is up to par with everyone else :)
Anyone who's had an online conversation with me knows I'm a sucker for emoticons! They are very valuable emotional cues that may seem immature, but can easily send a powerful message and sometimes tip the scale between a friendly message and a nasty one. Like the article says we have a natural tenancy to read emails with a negative tone of voice, so my solution is to create a universal new keyboard fully equipped with all the emoticons and emotional abbreviations you'll ever need so you'll never accidently piss off your boss, spouse, or grandmother ever again :D
This is where I need your expert advice. What do you think about the position, gesture, and scale of the hands? I'm thinking I should crop into the keyboard more so you can clearly read the emoticons. And if you can suggest more emoticons and abbreviations so I may fill up all the keys that would be great!

I like the hand position and the view from the side, but I think you could have made the view a little from the top so you can see some of the keys better.
ReplyDeleteOr possibly a first person point of view as if they're your own hands typing and looking at the keys straight in front of you (I guess kind of like your hands point of view is what I'm picturing, would make an interesting compostion.
Hmm, you make a good point Kira. I'll revise the sketch and try an aerial view. Thanks!! Any suggestions to fill up the rest of my keyboard?
ReplyDeleteThe rest I think should be the normal actions like "shift, enter, del, control" so that at first glance you dont know what's so different about this keyboard. Kind of like what you started doing with the numbers. Whatever you cant fill in with the abbreviations u can fill with the normal buttons.
ReplyDeleteNice approach to our topic. I really like the view point you have in your sketch. My only suggestion would be to make the hands bigger. On my macbook, my hands are about 3/4 of the height of the keyboard.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate, after taking a second look at it, the hands are WAAAY too small. I actually agree with Kira and I'm changing the composition from side view to aerial view. A lot of my work has that one point perspective from the side, time to change it up :) Solid suggestions :D !!

ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Chels I'll see what I can do. You know it just wont be a Sam Singh piece if it didn't have a few bumps and bruises in it :D But this piece is looking really, really different from this sketch, so we'll see how this turns out. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like the concept Sam... But it sounds like the sketch has changed way too much, so I won't bother making physical comments. If you still have the screen in the shot, what are you planning on putting on it? I think this would be a fun one to go all black and glow-y like some of your thesis stuff.
